Initially retained to prepare the visual resource sections of the project environmental impact report, our analysis focused on alternatives for preservation and restoration of aging original art deco murals on the walls and ceiling within the Orinda Theater building, as well as the prominent marquee and front façade of the original building. Proposed for conversion into a multiplex cinema, as part of a new retail and office complex, the Theater became the focus of intense local preservation interest. Following conceptual approval of a mitigated project, we were again retained to evaluate options for satisfying project parking demands, including implementation of a traffic system management program for the various theater, restaurant, retail and office uses within the complex.
